JUNE 12 - JUNE 15, 2008
During this retreat we will examine in depth how the contemplative experience enhances the healing of trauma, depression, anxiety, addiction and other psychological difficulties. We will also explore the role that contemplative experience plays in passing through the dark night of the soul and other aspects of the transpersonal stages of the spiritual journey. Those in the healing professions and ministries, as well those in twelve step recovery programs, and all who are interested in spirituality as a resource in healing will find this retreat a gift to themselves that they can take home and pass on to others.
Those attending the retreat will:
• Explore how suffering arises from our estrangement from the contemplative experience and how renewing and deepening contemplation liberates us from the tyranny of suffering.
• Develop a clearer understanding and appreciation of four key questions: What is spirituality? What is trauma? What is the traumatization of our spirituality? What is the spirituality of trauma?
• Meditate together and study the fundamentals of meditation practice as a way of establishing ourselves in the healing power of contemplative experience.
• Learn to distinguish between depression and the dark night of the soul.
• Investigate ways to continue growing in our ongoing efforts to become contemplative healers, both for ourselves and for those who come to us for help.
